5 Reasons to stay at Warwick Reine Astrid Hotel Lyon
There are 5 reasons why we chose the Warwick Reine Astrid Hotel in Lyon.
1: The location at 24, Boulevard des Belges - 69006 Lyon, is in a quiet residential area surrounded by lovely buildings and plenty of greenery. The hotel has a reception desk, restaurant and bar, lifts (from carpark to rooms), and secure underground parking. Hotel staff were welcoming and helpful. They also spoke English.
2: There is secure underground parking with access at 5 Rue Félix Jacquier. It was very challenging for Chris to manoeuvre the Renault Trafic van that we had hired. However, the front desk staff were accommodating. We handed over our car keys so that the van could be moved around by staff if needed. If you are travelling with a small or medium size car, you shouldn’t have any problem with the space but please note that it is not possible to book a parking space and the ramp is quite steep and tight.
Chris’ parking tip (that he wished he had used!): Drive around the block and come back down the quiet one way street in the opposite direction, in order to enter the ramp at a better angle.
3: Our room was a Renovated Deluxe Suite. It looked just as it did on Booking.com. It was a very good sized room with a nice bathroom, sitting area, a balcony and a kitchenette. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet.
4: The restaurant and bar. We had not planned to eat at the hotel restaurant but we found that it was very convenient both nights. As the weather wasn’t good and we were exhausted, it was easier to stay in. The bartender was exceptional and it was a nice quiet space to recover after travelling and sightseeing. Although, we didn’t eat breakfast in the hotel, it is an option and there is also an outside terrace beyond the dining area to enjoy in good weather.
5: Parc de la Tête d’Or was just a short walk from our hotel and is a beautiful spot to spend time in a busy city. This is not just a park. It’s huge and consists of botanic gardens, a rose garden, a zoo, a lake, plenty of open green space with benches for picnics plus wide pathways for walking and cycling. We didn’t see them but there is also a carousel and other activities for children.
On our way from the hotel, we paused to admire some of the lovely old buildings.
We stumbled upon a wedding photoshoot.
Construction of the park commenced in 1856 and opened to the public in 1861. The botanic gardens and zoo were added soon afterwards. The rose garden was a more recent addition in 1961.
We admired the artwork and rose garden.
Mostly we were entranced by the antics of the giraffes. It was time for them to go inside the enclosure for the evening and there was definitely a hierarchy within the group. They walked this way and that until at last one went in, then another and finally the last two.
We took this as our queue to return to the hotel. Please join me next time as we venture to other parts of the Lyon. À bientôt!
